Preclinical and Translational Research to Improve Cardiovascular Health
Bellini Lab
Our lab focuses on elucidating how pathophysiological processes of cell-mediated growth and remodeling affect the mechanical function of tissues and organs within the cardiovascular system.
Our Research Concepts
We rely on engineering principles to measure and model the biological function of vascular tissues.

Biomechanics
We evaluate changes in the biomechanical characterization of aortic function after aging, menopause, pregnancy, aortic aneurysms, or exposure to cigarette smoke, vaping, and wildfire smoke.

Cell and Tissue
We quantify changes in the aortic wall’s microstructural components from histological assays.

Experimental Data
We work with animal models to mimic human disease progression after exposure to different pollutants or other external stressors .

Numerical Modeling
We use experimental data to create a model of arterial mechanics to estimate constitutive parameters and predict the distribution of stretch, stiffness, stress, and energy storage capacity.

What we do is important
Highlight and/or describe clinical or therapeutic applications for your research. Give details about the impact you’re making and show the reader why they should care about your work. Share testimonials from your team.

Highlight one of your favorite projects (title)
Add a photo that visually represents your project or include a photo of your project if possible. The remainder of this text box can be used to provide a brief attention grabber for the reader to captivate them to want to learn more.
